Dear Gal Travelers:

The idea for Get Up and Go Gals came to me when I was planning a trip to Mississippi one Thanksgiving and my usual travel partners were unavailable. Traveling alone doesn’t appeal to me because it can be expensive, a little scary, and not much fun. Through my circle of acquaintances, I connected with a woman in a neighboring town who wanted to go with me. Although we had never met before, we had a terrific time. 

This got me thinking. I owned two Curves for Women Fitness Centers at the time and knew that there were plenty of single females out there who could benefit from an affordable travel club that connects like-minded gals 40 on up. So I started Get Up and Go Gals—a women’s travel club that helps ladies like us find each other. If you’re looking for a travel partner, you can post your trip on-line, along with information about yourself, including how to contact you, and interested women will get in touch. Or, check out the directory of women who have indicated places where they’d like to visit and you can contact them. They just might be game for an unexpected adventure. And don’t worry about posting information. Only members of Get Up and Go Gals can access your personal information using a secure password system to ensure privacy.

But why stop at connecting travel companions, I thought? A women’s travel club can offer so much more. Some of you might take more adventures if you were guaranteed a safe place to stay and a native of the area who could point you in the right direction. Best places to eat, hike, shop, swim, visit—and avoid. What if she had some of your same interests and hobbies and could steer you toward those out of the way places that only the natives know about. The best little quilting shop. An affordable art gallery. Now we’re talking. The kind of insight you can get from the host of a bed and breakfast—without the expense. So Get Up and Go Gals is gathering a list of women 40 and older from around the world who will gladly host other women (and in some cases, their husbands) for a nominal fee. Breakfast included. That’s what makes this such an affordable travel club.

Get Up and Go Gals has really flamed my penchant for travel so I decided to plan affordable group trips and open them up to members. This discount travel club will be a great way for you to start making new friends and hook up with future travel companions. In 2007, you can join us as we journey to the green hills of Ireland or enjoy a fall color tour along the Eastern Coast of the United States. These are just the first two of many amazing destinations that await you worldwide. 

And finally, I plan to post links to Web-sites with leisure and hobby information that may be of interest to members, such as crafting, painting, knitting, sewing, and quilting—so  check back often to see what’s up.
